Our approach to historic design harmonizes the inherent contrast between the old and the new. Our design philosophy is focused on extracting the dynamic visual qualities inherent in traditional architectural elements. We create space that establishes an architectural style based on the juxtaposition between materials. This juxtaposition manifests itself in a dialogue between different materials from different historical eras. We expose existing components such that they depend on one another but are still independent. The richness of texture is most clearly defined when components, both new and old, are layered. Inspired by the context of historic properties, Peter Meijer Architect, LLC expresses significant periods of construction by exposing material and texture in layers.
